Durutti Column was the brainchild of classically trained musician, Vini Reilly, who took both the band’s name and the idea of putting their first release in a sandpaper sleeve (so as to “destroy all other albums on the shelf”) from the Situationists, but Reilly himself—DC’s only constant member—was (and is) 100% Manchester. Releasing a steady stream of experimental albums on the legendary Factory Records (Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, etc.) beginning in 1981, Circuses And Bread (originally released on Factory Benelux in 1986), was DC’s fifth album, featuring viola, trumpet and piano, interspersed with Reilly’s stellar guitar work. Remastered in 2008.
